The Great ShakeOut

LocationContra Costa College — Campuswide

Join Contra Costa College for the Great ShakeOut on Thursday, October 15, at 10:15 a.m. This scheduled earthquake drill lasts one minute. Participate in your classroom or current campus location. We will not be evacuating.

At 10:15 a.m.:

- Drop to the ground, if you can do so safely.

- Cover your head and neck and take shelter under a sturdy desk or table, if available.

- Hold on for 60 seconds.

Faculty: pause class activities and guide students through the drill. Remind students beforehand that this is a scheduled exercise. Before October 15, identify safe classroom locations, review campus evacuation areas, and plan for students who need assistance or an alternative protective action.

If dropping to the ground is not possible, adapt the protective action to your needs. See the college’s earthquake safety guidance for seated, wheelchair, walker, and other options.

Practicing now helps our campus community respond more safely during an emergency.
